Preferably during or immediately after a meal and spread the intake over the different meals. If swallowing problems occur, the capsule may be opened.Warning:Do not use during pregnancy and breastfeeding. St. John's wort can adversely affect the effect of medicines. St. John's wort enhances the effect of the liver enzyme cytochrome P450, which causes a number of medicines to be broken down more quickly and therefore have a lesser effect. If you are using a medicine in combination with a medicine containing St. John's wort, you are advised to contact a doctor or pharmacist who can provide you with further information on whether or not the combination can lead to such an interaction. This advice applies before starting to take St. John's wort, but also if you stop taking St. John's wort and one of the medicines below at the same time. St. John's wort is known to reduce the effect of the following medicines: - immune system inhibitors, for example in organ transplants and autoimmune diseases: e.g. ciclosporin - coumarin-type anticoagulants, such as acenocoumarol (e.g. Sintrom) and phenprocoumon (e.g. Marcoumar) - anti-epileptics: phenobarbital and phenytoin - bronchodilators: theophylline - cardiac glycosides for heart failure and cardiac arrhythmias: digoxin - HIV virus inhibitors: indinavir St. John's wort can also influence the effect of SSRI-type antidepressants. Concomitant use is not recommended. Breakthrough bleeding has been observed in isolated cases when St. John's wort and certain types of the contraceptive pill (the combination of ethinylestradiol and desogestrel, also known as sub-50). If breakthrough bleeding occurs, there may be reduced protection against pregnancy. Ginkgo biloba may affect the effect of anticoagulants. Consult an expert for this.
